In 2001 Don set off from Sydney in his Kombi on an epic journey around Australia. He travelled through northern NSW, stopping a while at Byron Bay, and then on up through Brisbane and into northern Queensland, along the way to way visiting some of the islands of the Great Barrier Reef. In Townsville he met a German backpacker known to all of us as Schultz - this is the photgraphic record of their fun months travelling through outback Queensland and the Northern Territory :-)

Don lived in Val d'Isere, the hip ski resort in the French Alps, for abour 6 months during the 2002 / 2003 season. While there he played with UK band "Mullett" (he hated that name...). He returned to Australia briefly in January 2003 to be at our Dad's bedside when he died. This was a difficult journey for Don, he was unwell and the trip took 3 days by bus and plane from the alps to Sydney, but - importantly - he made it before Dad died and was able to be there to support Mum and his brothers when we needed him.

A typical fun day with Uncle Donald... we took the bikes to the park in Hemel Hempstead. Sophie & Lucy were still learning to ride: no longer relying on trainer wheels, but still a little bit cautious going down big hills. Don spent ages with the girls, building up their confidence, challengening and encouraging them to ride faster down the hills! You can see how important Don was to us and the kids especially.

Mum came to visit Don's house in Shepherd's Bush, west London. We walked throughjthe market, then to one of the pubs opposite the Green. I hope Mum's cardiologist hasn't seen these pics...

A newly beardless Donald came to join Nicki, Graeme, Gareth, Phillipa, Janet, Lucy, Sophie and me at one of our favourite Thai restaurants, inside an Irish pub near Ealing in west London.

Don became an important part of our lives here in Chesham, and that is especially true for our daughters Sophie & Lucy, who idolised their mad uncle :-)

Except for our broadband video chat hookup in the days before he died, these photos were taken the last time we saw Don when he had returned from France and was on his way home to Australai via California.

Janet, the girls and I miss him terribly.
